Electoral-Insight-–-Persons-with-Disabilities-and-Elections-–-Elections-CanadaPeople with disabilities are largely invisible in Canada’s electoral processes. Among those who participate as candidates in municipal, provincial and federal elections, there continues to be a significant underrepresentation of people with disabilities, particularly people with disabilities that require accommodations such as sign language interpreters, alternative media and other types of supports. There is no collected history or analysis of the presence or absence of people with disabilities in Canadian politics. As well, there are candidates and elected officials with disabilities who remain hidden, passing as non-disabled people.
